Rutgers Athletics supporters can earn more money for their favorite funds by participating in hourly challenges
PISCATAWAY – As it does in all phases of athletics, academics and in the community, the Rutgers University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is in pursuit of excellence on Rutgers Giving Day – Wednesday, March 27 – as it strives to become the University unit with the most donors while raising the most dollars.
Givingday.rutgers.edu will be the headquarters for the Fourth Annual Rutgers University Giving Day. The theme of the day is THINK BIGGER, but it's not necessarily just about dollar amounts. Giving Day is all about participation from all corners of The State University of New Jersey, the country and the world, and every gift of every size makes an impact.
Rutgers Athletics has raised $301,000 over the past two Giving Days - $148,000 in 2017 and increasing to $153,000 in 2018.
R Fund is coordinating a day-long campaign to maximize the impact of each gift on the more than 600 Scarlet Knight student-athletes "On the Banks." A litany of social media and hourly giving challenges – tagged with #RUGivingDay on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – will be conducted throughout the day with opportunities to unlock additional funds for specific programs and fundraising campaigns.
If the athletic department can be one of the top four units in terms of donors, an additional $1,000 will be won for one of the Scarlet Knights' top fundraising causes. In the spirit of athletic competition, the three sports teams with the most participation on Giving Day will be awarded an additional $5,000, $3,000 or $1,500 for their team-specific funds.
The Rutgers University Foundation also announced that when 5,000 people make a gift, a $100,000 gift from trustee Ken Johnson ENG'66 and his wife Jackie will be unlocked to support student aid throughout the University.
The full rundown of hourly challenges are available on the Giving Day webpage – including Lunchtime Crunchtime, where Rutgers Athletics can earn an additional $1,000 if it's one of the Top 8 areas with the most donors between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The day begins with the Kickoff Challenge, where the first 10 funds to receive a gift after midnight will win an additional $500 each.
THE BUILD CONTINUES: With the Gary and Barbara Rodkin Academic Success Center groundbreaking in April and the Grand Opening of the RWJBarnabas Health Athletic Performance Center in September, the 2019 calendar year is shaping up to be a landmark as we continue to write the greatest chapter of Rutgers Athletics together. There is still time to become a part of history and make a profound impact on generations of Rutgers student-athletes in pursuit of excellence in sport and life.
