PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Anthony Ashnault, fresh off of last month's 149-pound NCAA title run, will compete for Team USA's Senior Freestyle team at the 2019 Pan American Championships from April 18-21 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The four-time All-American and three-time Big Ten champion will wrestle at 70 kg at the tournament. Ashnault is schedule to wrestle during Sunday's session, with the qualifcation round set for 10 a.m. ET, followed by championship rounds at 5 p.m. ET.
This weekend's Pan Am Championships serve as a qualifier for both next month's World Team Trials in Raleigh, North Carolina and the 2019 Pan American Games held in August in Lima, Peru.
Ashnault is part of a stacked Team USA squad that features four-time World champion and 2012 Olympic champion Jordan Burroughs, as well as two-time world champion and 2016 Olympic champion Kyle Snyder, 2016 Olympic Bronze medalist J'den Cox, 2018 Pan American champion David Taylor and world medalists Joe Colon and Nick Gwiazdowski.
Ashnault has a busy schedule coming up on the mat, as he is also set to compete at the 2019 "Grapple at the Garden" Beat the Streets (BTS) benefit at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden on May 6 in New York City along with fellow 2019 NCAA Champion Nick Suriano.
Ashnault produced one of the most storied careers in program history, as he finished his time "On the Banks" as a four-time All-American, three-time Big Ten Conference champion and RU's all-time wins leader with 123 career victories. In his final season, the 2019 Hodge Trophy finalist went 32-0, secured the 2019 Big Ten title and closed his collegiate career with a national title at 149 pounds.
