Allsebrook Paces Women’s Golf on Day One of Big Ten Championship
Apr 19 | Women's Golf
MAINEVILLE, OH – Harriet Allsebrook carded a 74 in challenging conditions during the opening round of the Big Ten Championship, played Friday at TPC River's Bend. The sophomore, who registered 15 pars and is minus-one on par five holes, enters Saturday's second round tied for 14th in the 84-player field for the Scarlet Knights, who are 14th with a 314 total.
"I'm happy with how steady my game was today on a tough golf course," said Allsebrook. "I relied on my entire bag to scramble throughout the day and saved a lot of pars. I hope to give myself a few more birdie opportunities tomorrow."
RU battled cold, rain and wind on day one of the 54-hole event, which includes six programs among the Golfstat top 50 on the 6,357-yard, par 72 championship course.
"The course was challenging with the weather today, and the wind direction was opposite of our practice round so the course played much differently," said head coach Kari Williams. "We will have to manage ourselves better on the course tomorrow in order to score and to have a chance at catching a few teams ahead of us."
Nebraska is one stroke ahead of the Scarlet Knights, who are 10 strokes out of 10th place with 36 holes remaining.
Graduate senior Ashleigh Greenham eagled the par five, 477-yard, 18th hole to provide a tournament highlight. The co-captain is minus-two on par five holes and is tied for 41st with a 77.
Juniors Carrie-Ann Lee and Ana Cortes, freshman Maeve Rossi, and sophomore Lori Char comprise the RU scorecard for the Championship, which utilizes a six player format with the top four scores counted. Lee is tied for 54th with a 79, Rossi is tied for 78th with an 84, Cortes is tied for 81st with an 85 and Char is 84th with an 87.
No. 21 Illinois is atop the leaderboard with a 291. Ohio State and Indiana are three shots behind in second-place. Three competitors are tied for the individual lead after carding 71 on Friday.
The second round has been pushed back to 9:30 a.m. (ET) on Saturday. The Scarlet Knights will be paired with Nebraska and Iowa.
Live stats will be available at golfstat.com and bigten.org. Results of the Championships also will be posted on the main scoreboard located near the 18th green.
