Women’s Golf Third at Jan Weaver Invite

MURRAY, Ky. – Women's golf is third with a 590 (292-298) total after two rounds of the 15-team Jan Weaver Invitational, played Friday at Frances E. Miller Memorial Golf Course. Four competitors are among the top 20 in the 97-player field for the Scarlet Knights, who enter Saturday's final round five strokes behind tournament host and leader Murray State.

"We struggled a little today converting on good scoring opportunities," said Rutgers head coach Kari Williams. "This course has many holes that can be birdied and we need to take advantage of those tomorrow. We will have to come out and be sharper around the greens and get our putters going early to make up a few shots between us and the leaders."

Graduate senior Ashleigh Greenham carded a 144 (72-72) and is tied for fifth on the par 72 course. One of six entries at or below par, she has 28 pars and is minus-two on par three holes.

Sophomore Harriet Allsebrook, coming off her first collegiate victory, is eighth with a 146 (71-75) to join Greenham among the top 10. She is minus one on par fives and even on par threes with six birdies.

Junior Carrie-Ann Lee, freshman Maeve Rossi and sophomore Lori Char comprise the rest of the RU scorecard. Lee is tied for 11th with a 149 (74-75), Rossi is tied for 16th with a 151 (75-76) and Char is tied for 26th with a 153 (75-78). Lee is minus-two on par fives and Rossi is two-under on par three holes.

The 79th-ranked Scarlet Knights trail the Racers on their home course, as well another state foe in second place Eastern Kentucky, with 18 holes to play on the 6,010-yard course featuring Bermuda grass greens and fairways.

"The greens are rolling well and we look to be more committed to our lines and hole a few more putts in the final round," said Williams.

Competing individually, junior Ana Cortes is tied for 38th with a 155 (79-76).

Saturday's third and final round begins via an 8:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start. Results will be available via Golfstat.
