IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Rutgers women's track and field team battled rainy and cold conditions on day two of the 2019 Big Ten Outdoor Championships hosted by Iowa at Francis X. Cretzmeyer Track as redshirt sophomore
Lou Mialhe reset the school record in the 3000m steeplechase for the third time in her career.
Mialhe raced to new Scarlet Knight benchmark of 11:02.03 topping the previous record by over four seconds. The Princeton, New Jersey native broke the record twice last season including the previous best of 11:06.17 set at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton in April of 2018.
Senior
Oniesha Clarke, who reached the 100m finals in 2018, fell just short of repeating the feat this season. The senior Scarlet Knight came in second in the opening heat with a time of 11.99 but finished four spots from returning to the finals.
In the 800m, senior
Jenna Sobieski, who made finals of the indoor championship, also placed second in her preliminary heat. She was edged, however, from the finals after finishing 13
th overall in a time of 2:09.71.
Day three of the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on Sunday will include Scarlet Knights competing in the 400m hurdle finals, 5000m, 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay, as well as the discus, high jump and triple jump.
