LDSP Presents at NACDA N4A Keynote Sessions
Jun 10
ORLANDO, FLA. – The Rutgers Office of Leadership Development and Strategic Partnerships joined keynote sessions for the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A). Dr. Kristina Navarro, Dr. Carissa Conroy, and Mike Salm conducted presentations for N4A on June 7 at the 2019 NACDA & Affiliates Convention Week in Orlando, Florida.
Collectively, the LDSP staff did three presentations on topics including Leveraging Corporate Sponsorship Funding Sources for Student-Athlete Development Program Support, Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: Collaborative Communication Between Campus and Conference SAAC, and Global Studies: Impact on Student-Athlete Engagement and Identity Development in Higher Education.
GLOBAL STUDIES: IMPACT ON STUDENT-ATHLETE ENGAGEMENT AND IDENTITY DEVELOPMENT IN HIGHER EDUCATION
Navarro, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Leadership Development and Strategic Partnerships, discussed the importance of creative fundraising models to build sustainable and relevant program.
"Today the student-athlete experience is foundational to the success of future giving. Assessing programs communicates value," said Navarro. "Valuable programs are programs alumni and corporate partners want to partner with and support in a meaningful way. At Rutgers we take a data driven approach to identify ways to meaningful engage student athletes across campus, in the community, nationally and globally. This is crucial to our strategic plan and our pursuit of student-athlete excellence during college and beyond."
LEVERAGING CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP FUNDING SOURCES FOR STUDENT-ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM SUPPORT
Conroy, Executive Director for the Varsity R Letterwinners Association, discussed the relationship between current and former student-athletes via the Varsity R Letterwinners program.
"Building, maintaining, and developing long-lasting meaningful relationships is a core concept of the student-athlete development industry," Conroy noted. "Being able to impact our field nation-wide by discussing tools and concepts we have implemented at Rutgers with Alumni Engagement solidifies LDSP as an innovative leader in creating the best holistic student-athlete experience possible.
"The N4A conference provided us a platform to showcase how Rutgers Alumni Engagement and LDSP continue to move the needle for a holistic student experience."
TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK: COLLABORATIVE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN CAMPUS AND CONFERENCE SAAC
Salm, Director for Leadership Development and Strategic Partnerships, discussed the importance of Corporate Partnerships and listening to stakeholders to enhance program success.
"To develop effective, impactful, sustainable leadership development programming we must first listen, to our student-athletes and partner corporations, so we can intentionally build proposals that are win-win in every context," noted Salm.
