Sep 21 | Women's Golf
PISCATAWAY - Women's golf is fourth with a 598 (298-300) after the first two rounds of the 12-team Nittany Lion Invitational, played Saturday on the Penn State Blue Course. Senior Carrie-Ann Lee carded a team-best 145 (73-72) to enter Sunday's final round tied for sixth in the 72-player field.
"I struggled today with my accuracy off the tee, but I was able to manage myself around the course and minimize my mistakes," said Lee. "I tried to be very patient today, and tomorrow I'll look to create more chances for birdie."
Lee was minus-two on par five and even on par four holes to register five birdies and 26 pars on day one. She is joined in the top 20 by freshman Anna-Maria Diederichs, who is tied for 17th with a 149 (72-77). Diedrich's even par opening round was aided by an eagle on a 480-yard par five.
"Carrie-Ann played very well for us today and put together two good rounds," said head coach Kari Williams. "I was happy with the way she competed. Anna-Maria's opening round kept us competitive through the first 18. We continue to work on playing hard from the first tee shot to the last putt on the eighteenth green, and we'll need to do that tomorrow to move up the leaderboard."
Junior Eun Won Park and sophomore Maeve Rossi are among the top 30 competitors on the par 72, 6,322-yard course. Park is tied for 24th with a 152 (76-76) and Rossi is tied for 30th with a 153 (78-75).
Senior Ana Cortes is tied for 52nd with a 158 (77-81) to complete the RU scorecard.
Competing individually, junior Lori Char is tied for 41st with a 155 (77-78).
The Scarlet Knights enter the final 18 holes eleven strokes behind third place Penn State and ahead of Navy, High Point, Akron, Bucknell, Towson, Georgetown, Youngstown State and Ohio.
Penn leads the Invitational with a four-over 580 (292-288), three strokes ahead of second place Seton Hall. SHU's Madeline Sager is atop the individual leaderboard with a five-under 139.
Sunday's final round will begin via a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring will be available courtesy of Golfstat.
