Cochrane Leads Tennis at the West Point Invite with a Title in Singles

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Senior Jaci Cochrane led Rutgers tennis with a main draw singles title at the West Point Invite hosted by Army Sept. 27-29. Overall, three Scarlet Knights made the main draw semifinals in singles, two of which advanced to the finals. In doubles, the sophomore duo of Sydney Jones and Tess Fisher advanced to the semifinals in doubles.
SINGLES DRAWS
Cochrane collected six singles victories on the way to claiming the C Singles title. She defeated opponents from FDU, Bryant, Army, and Drexel. In the finals, Cochrane recorded a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Drexel's Tara Veluvolu to take the crown.
In the main draw of B Singles, senior Kat Muzik advanced to the finals, defeating opponents from Drexel, NJIT, Sacred Heart and Army. Muzik was edged 6-4, 0-6, 10-6 by Stony Brook's Maria Ribeiro in the final.
Jones advanced to the semifinals of the A Singles main draw, taking wins over Fairfield, Rhode Island, and Seton Hall foes. She fell in a close 6-2, 7-6 (5) semifinal match with Drexel's Sarka Richterova.
In the consolation of A Singles, sophomore Sydney Kaplan advanced to the finals with 3-0 record. The final match was not played at the invite.
DOUBLES DRAWS
The duo of Jones and Fisher made its way to the semifinals of A doubles, cruising through the draw with wins over pairs from Rhode Island (6-1), Drexel (6-2), and Lehigh (6-1). Jones and Fisher would fall in the semis to Syracuse's duo by a margin of 6-4.
Junior Maya Jacobs and sophomore Kristiana Zahare advanced to the quarterfinals of A Doubles, while Muzik and junior Isabelle Da Silva made their way to the quarterfinals of B Doubles.
