Track and Field Set To Open Indoor Season At TCNJ Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's and women's track and field open the indoor season Saturday, Jan. 11 at the TCNJ Lions Indoor Invitational, held at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York.
RU claimed its fifth straight Metropolitan Indoor Championship on the men's side in 2019. The Scarlet Knights collected two Big Ten medals at last year's indoor championship. Sophomore A'nan Bridgett returns after claiming a bronze medal in the long jump in his debut at the conference championship.
Rutgers placed second at the 2019 IC4A Indoor Championships, producing 19 All-East honorees.
Senior Tobi Tella returns after setting the program's indoor triple jump record last season with a mark of 51' 10" (15.80m). Juniors Taj Burgess and Christopher Jenkins return as members of the 4x400m relay team that reset the indoor record with a time of 3:08.00.
Burgess also set RU's record in the 500m, clocking a time of 1:01.34 which ranked first in the NCAA at the time.
The women's team also successfully defended its the Metropolitan Championship, winning three of the past four years. Senior Rhonda Rogombe won the high jump at the ECAC Indoor Championships, while several other Scarlet Knights turned in solid performances at the Big Ten Conference Championship to highlight the indoor season.
At last year's TCNJ Lions Invitational, RU captured four titles with junior Olympia Martin winning the mile and running on the 4x800m relay. She was joined by Kaitlyn Bragen, junior Kiera Nelaon and sophomore Erin Bertscha. Phyllis Gordan won the 500m and Rogombe took first in the high jump to round out the wins.
