Redshirt senior is one of 50 players on the prestigious list
ATLANTA – Rutgers redshirt senior guard Arella Guirantes is one of 50 players named to the 2021 Women's Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Watch List, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Tuesday morning. The Naismith Trophy annually honors the National Player of the Year in college basketball.
Guirantes is a Big Ten Coaches Co-Preseason Player of the Year, a unanimous selection to the 10-person Preseason All-Big Ten Team and one of 20 preseason candidates for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, honoring the nation's top shooting guard. A First Team All-Big Ten selection as a redshirt junior in 2019-20, she led the conference and ranked ninth in the nation with 20.6 points per game.
The award's midseason 30 team will be announced in early February. Players who do not make the watch list are still eligible to be selected for the midseason 30 team. The competition will be narrowed down to 10 national semifinalists on March 2, 2021, and four finalists will be named on March 19, 2021.
The winner of the 2021 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy for Women's Player of the Year will be announced on April 3, 2021.
