Apr 13 | Women's Basketball
PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Head Rutgers women's basketball coach Gary Redus II announced the signing of sophomore transfer Jaylah Lampley to the 2026-27 squad. Lampley arrives in Piscataway after spending her freshman season at Mississippi State, where she averaged 8.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
"I know Jaylah and her family very well, and it is clear she comes from an accomplished basketball pedigree," Redus said. "She had a strong freshman season competing in the SEC—her size and versatility on the wing will be a major asset for us. She has the ability to guard multiple positions, score at all three levels and is a high-level defender which will help elevate our team on both ends of the floor. Just as important, she brings the kind of character and leadership that will be critical as we continue to build the foundation of our program."

Lampley appeared in 30 games for the Bulldogs, making six starts, quickly establishing herself as a consistent contributor. She reached double figures in 12 contests and pulled down 10 or more rebounds three times. The Fishers, Indiana native recorded her first collegiate double-double against Samford (Dec. 28), finishing with a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds, earning SEC Freshman of the Week honors for her performance.
A versatile scoring threat, Lampley also made an impact from beyond the arc, ranking third on the team with 27 three-pointers. The 6-foot-1 wing knocked down three or more triples in three games and led the Bulldogs in three-point field goals made in eight contests.
Prior to her time in Starkville, Lampley starred at Lawrence Central High School, where she played all four years under the guidance of her mother, head coach Jannon Lampley. Ranked No. 37 in the Class of 2025 by ESPNW, she averaged a career-best 21.2 points per game as a senior and finished as the program's all-time leader in scoring, rebounding, and steals.
Lampley was named the 2024 MaxPreps and Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year after leading Lawrence Central to an IHSAA 4A State Championship, along with back-to-back MIC Conference and Marion County titles.
