Dordel Named Softball Assistant Coach

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers softball head coach Kristen Butler has brought aboard Brynne Dordel to serve as the Scarlet Knights' pitching coach, it was announced on Friday 

Dordel arrives on "On the Banks" after spending the last three seasons as a volunteer assistant with the Alabama Crimson Tide, as well as coaching stints with at Iowa State, North Dakota State and Ball State. 

"I am so excited to add Coach Dordell to our staff," said Butler. "She comes from successful programs and will bring that experience with her. She has improved the pitching staff everywhere she has been and I have no doubt she will do the same here at Rutgers. She will also be an asset in other areas on the field in helping with our hitters and fielders. I cannot wait to have her here 'On The Banks' with us. She will help myself and Coach Yonan on our continued journey to a Big Ten Championship." 

In her three seasons as a member of the Crimson Tide staff, Alabama compiled a 110-38 record with two NCAA appearances, including an appearance in the 2019 College World Series. In her first season in 2018, the Crimson Tide won the Tuscaloosa Regional and advanced to the Seattle Super Regional ending the year ranked No. 14 in both the ESPN.com and USA Today Polls. In 2019, Alabama went 60-10 overall in its College World Series run concluding the season at No. 4 in the polls. In a shortened 2020 season, Dordel helped the Crimson Tide to  No. 10 ranking in the NFCA poll, as well as No. 11 in the D1Softball poll, No. 12 in the Softball America rankings and No. 13 in the USA Softball Poll.  

As an assistant coach at Iowa State in 2017, Dordel worked with Cyclones' pitching staff. Prior to her time in Ames, Iowa, she spent three seasons as a pitching coach at North Dakota State. There, she guided the Bison to three Summit League regular season and tournament titles and qualified for the NCAA Tournament all three seasons. The NDSU coaching staff was named the NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year in 2015 and 2016 and earned Summit League Coaching Staff of the Year honors in 2014 and 2015. During the 2012 and 2013 seasons, Dordel was a coach at Ball State, earning back-to-back Mid-American Conference titles. 

On the field, Dordel was a four-year starter at Drake University where she helped lead the Bulldogs to a 2008 Missouri Valley Conference title and the team's first NCAA appearance since 1994. She was also the 2007 Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year at Chaska High School. 

Dordel is 2011 graduate of Drake with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average in accounting/finance and was a Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-American as a senior.
