Ryan Rose Named Men’s Golf Assistant Coach

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Head Coach Rob Shutte has announced the addition of Ryan Rose as an assistant coach for the Rutgers men's golf team. A four-year letterwinner with the program from 2013-17, Rose returns to his alma mater after a successful career in marketing.
"I could not be happier to welcome Ryan back to Rutgers to be a great role model and coach for our student-athletes," Shutte said. "I knew we wanted somebody who shares in the same high level of passion for this University and golf program as our team does. Ryan was my first call and I am thrilled he took interest in this opportunity to grow his own career while enhancing the lives of our players. The entire athletic department will benefit by having Ryan be a part of this program.
"I'm beyond excited and thankful for the opportunity to come back to Rutgers, a place that means so much to me," Rose said. "I look forward to learning under Coach Shutte and developing strong bonds with our student-athletes as the program continues to rise within the Big Ten Conference."
A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Rose appeared in 22 tournaments and carded 60 varsity rounds for Rutgers during his collegiate care. The Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey, native also represented the Scarlet Knights in back-to-back Big Ten Match Play Championship events as a junior and senior and was named the team's Big Ten Sportsmanship award recipient in 2016.
After he earned his bachelor's degree (with honors) in economics from Rutgers in 2017, Rose transitioned into the private sector as an account executive with 160over90, a creative agency and marketing firm based out of New York City. Rose was responsible for a number of clients with 160over90 and operated as the organization's lead for Allstate's Southeastern Conference partnership, which included management of assets for the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Football Championship and the coordination of the Allstate SEC Legends program at the SEC Men's Basketball tournament.
A constant fixture around the program since graduation, Rose has participated in several of RU's Hackberry Invitational alumni golf outings and most recently served on the bag for reigning Big Ten Player of the Year Christopher Gotterup at the Lincoln Land Championship, part of the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour, this past September in Springfield, Illinois.
Rose returns to a program that continues to rise both regionally and across the country. Coming off arguably one of the best seasons in school history, Rutgers finished 86th out of the 294 Division I teams nationally, according to GolfStat, and 79th in the country according to Golf Week. The final GolfStat ranking was the seventh-best team result in the Big Ten Conference as Rutgers closed the regular season in the top half of the league rankings for the first time since joining in 2014. The Scarlet Knights' 288.74 scoring average was a program record. The rise earned Shutte 2020 Division I Northeast Coach of the Year honors.
The squad also returns Gotterup, who has become one of the top individuals in the country and is currently pegged No. 19 in the latest PGA Tour University rankings. Gotterup wrapped up his junior season by being named the 2020 Big Ten Player of the Year back in May. The Little Silver, New Jersey, native also earned GCAA All-America honors, first team All-Big Ten recognition and was the winner of the Les Bolstad Award, given to the individual with the lowest season stroke in the conference.
Rutgers also announced the opening of its state-of-the-art indoor facility – the Class of 1957 Indoor Golf Training Center – in time for the 2021 spring semester. Located inside the College Avenue Gym in New Brunswick, two-room facility features indoor putting space with Envyscapes turf and a hitting bay with Swing Catalyst technology, allowing student-athletes from both teams to train year-round.
