CHICAGO, Ill. (Feb. 18, 2020) – Incoming Rutgers women's basketball recruit Diamond Johnson has been selected to compete in the prestigious Jordan Brand Classic in 2020.
Johnson is one of 27 student-athletes named to the Jordan Brand women's national all-star team. The Jordan Brand Classic, now in its 19th year, will host elite level female and male high school senior basketball players as they take the big stage in the city where Michael Jordan rose to legend status. JBC is a celebration of the next generation of basketball stars and features the top high school talent in the country.
For the first time the Brand's marquee event will be held in Chicago at the Wintrust Arena. The double-header will be held on Friday, March 27th with the Girls Game tipping off at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Boys Game at 8:00 p.m. CST.
She joins current Scarlet Knights Alexis Morris and Maori Davenport as participants in the Jordan Brand Classic.
Johnson, a senior point guard at Neumann-Goretti High School, was named the 2019 Gatorade Pennsylvania Girls' Basketball Player of the Year after a season that included 28.1 points per game and a 54-point performance in the District 12 championship game last winter. She has been named the Philadelphia Catholic League Girls MVP in consecutive years, including this season.
Johnson maintained a 3.57 GPA in the classroom heading into her senior year. She has donated her time as a mentor for young children and has volunteered locally on behalf of the Christopher's Footprints Child Care Center. She is set to join the Scarlet Knights this summer for the foreign tour training trip to Spain before debuting on the court for the 2020-21 season.
