Apr 28 | Women's Basketball
PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Rutgers women's basketball head coach Gary Redus II announced the signing of graduate transfer Zennia Thomas to the 2026-27 roster Tuesday morning. Thomas began her collegiate career at Kentucky before spending the past two seasons at Howard.
"Zennia is a huge addition for us," Redus said. "She's a high-level forward with wing experience, and anytime you can bring in a conference Player of the Year who's competed in the NCAA Tournament, it's a win. Her offensive versatility will be key. We expect her to impact the game by scoring and rebounding in addition to bringing valuable experience. Having also played in the SEC, she's competed at a high level and will make an immediate impact."

Thomas is coming off a standout senior season with the Bison, in which she established herself as one of the most dominant players in the MEAC. The senior forward led the conference in scoring, netting 15.2 points per game while adding 7.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest. She shot 43 percent from the field and averaged more than 30 minutes per game, serving as the Bison's primary offensive option with consistent production throughout the season.
Her performance earned her MEAC Player of the Year honors, along with multiple weekly accolades. Thomas helped lead Howard to a 23–7 overall record and a 13–1 mark in conference play, securing the regular-season title and an NCAA Tournament first round appearance. She recorded nine double-doubles throughout the campaign in addition to posting 30 double figure performances, including eight outings with 20+ points.
In her first season at Howard (2024-25), Thomas was selected to the All-MEAC Third Team and MEAC All-Tournament Team. She led the conference in field goal percentage at 50 percent while ranking among league leaders in scoring (10th), rebounding (t-4th), free throw percentage (7th) and blocks (t-8th). The Cleveland, Ohio native recorded seven double-doubles during the season.
Thomas began her collegiate career at Kentucky, where as a freshman, she saw action in 10 games, highlighted by a six-point performance on 3-of-4 shooting at Vanderbilt. Flash forward to her sophomore slate (2023-24) Thomas appeared in seven games, totaling 14 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks.
