Men’s Golf Closes 2020 Big Ten Match Play Championship

PALM COAST, Fla. – Rutgers men's golf finished play at the 2020 Big Ten Match Play Championship on Saturday in Palm Coast, Florida. The Scarlet Knights tied Wisconsin, 3-3, and dropped a head-to-head matchup with Indiana during the second day of action on the Ocean Course at the Hammock Beach Resort.
Oliver Whatley went 3-0 in his head-to-head matchups during the two-day tournament, with junior Christopher Gotterup picking up wins over two Top 200 opponents. Senior Tony Jiang, sophomore Shayler Dance and rookie Xavier Marcoux record a win a piece over the weekend.
After defeating Maryland's Peter Knade – ranked No. 99 in the country according to GolfStat – on Friday, Gotterup added another impressive individual victory to his resume against No. 198 Sam Anderson of Wisconsin. Gotterup worked a 6&5 decision over Anderson, who entered the weekend with a 71.77 adjusted scoring average.
Whatley also impressed over the weekend, as he closed out play with a 3&2 win over Wisconsin's Pete Kuhl. Whatley produced a 4&2 victory over Indiana's Drew Giachhetto on Saturday morning and added a 1UP win against Will Celiberti of Maryland on Friday.
