Gymnastics Claims Three Event Titles in Meet with Michigan State

PISCATAWAY, N.J. –  Rutgers gymnastics was led by its senior class in Saturday's meet against Michigan State at the RAC. Senior Shannon Farrell (bars), Erin McLachlan (beam), and Kaitlyn Hall (vault) each claimed event titles for the Scarlet Knights, as RU posted a team mark of 193.800 overall.
 

 
VAULT
The Scarlet Knights began the day on vault, as senior Kaitlyn Hall finished first in the event with a 9.825. Freshman Hannah Joyner followed with a mark of 9.775. In her collegiate debut on vault, freshman Jenna Ferguson posted a 9.750 for RU, while junior Belle Huang contributed a 9.700 to aid the team score of 48.300.
 
BARS
Farrell anchored the bars lineup with a new season-high of 9.875 from a stuck routine, claiming first place in the event. Sophomore Abigail Karolewski's routine earned her a 9.725, while Joyner notched a 9.700. As a team, RU produced a mark of 47.550 in its second rotation of the day.
 
BEAM
Rutgers took control of its day with powerful routines on beam, recording five scores of 9.775 or higher to post a 49.100 in the event. McLachlan produced a 9.900 with a beautiful performance, placing first in the event. Joyner finished in second place with a 9.825, while Ferguson and junior Emily Drauss each made statements with back-to-back 9.800s as the opening routines. Huang contributed a 9.775 mark to round out the top five Scarlet Knights.
 
FLOOR
Huang led RU on floor, finishing second in the event with a season-high 9.875. Joyner tied for third with a mark of 9.850, a season-best for her as well. McLachlan made her first career appearance on floor, registering a 9.750 with her routine. Duffield added in a 9.750 of her own to help push RU to a season-best team total of 48.850.
 
ALL-AROUND
Joyner placed second in the all-around with a total mark of 39.150. Huang followed in fourth with a mark of 38.450.
 
KNIGHT NOTES
  • Erin McLachlan reached 9.900 on beam for the second time this year, having set the school record in the event with a 9.950 at Penn on Jan. 26.
  • Rutgers added a new season high on floor with a 48.850 in the event.
  • The Scarlet Knights produced seven Top 3 finishes in today's meet.
 
UP NEXT
Rutgers is back on the road with a trip to Maryland on Sunday, February 16. Meet time is set for 1 p.m. at the Xfinity Center.
