Apr 01 | Women's Basketball
PISCATAWAY - The WNBA tips off its 2020 season on Sunday, July 26 with six former members of the Rutgers women's basketball team. The Scarlet Knights' six WNBA representatives are ranked seventh among NCAA Division I schools.
Kahleah Copper '16 – Chicago Sky
Re-signed with the Chicago Sky. Copper has spent the last three seasons of her four-year WNBA career in the Windy City. She appeared in all 34 contests for the Sky last season, averaging 6.7 points in 14.8 minutes per game.
Betnijah Laney '15 – Atlanta Dream
Signed a contract with the Atlanta Drea in 2020. Laney started 27 of 34 games for the Indiana Fever in 2019 and averaged 5.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 steals in 25.8 minutes. The 26-year-old is primed to play a significant role for Atlanta in 2020 and beyond.
Erica Wheeler '13 – Indiana Fever
Enters her fifth season with the Indiana Fever following a breakout 2019 campaign that saw the Rutgers grad claim WNBA All-Star Game MVP honors. She was only the fifth undrafted free agent ever named to a WNBA All-Star Game before winning MVP by tying an All-Star Game record with seven 3-pointers, netting 25 points overall.
Epiphanny Prince '09 – Seattle Storm
After playing for the Las Vegas Aces last season, Prince will look to make an impact with the Seattle Storm this season. The 32-year-old will likely look to carve out minutes at the guard position.
Kia Vaughn '09 – Phoenix Mercury
After sitting out the entire 2019 season while playing in Turkey, agreed to terms with the Phoenix Mercury. The 10-year-veteran will presumably provide frontcourt depth. During the 2018 campaign, her last full WNBA season, Vaughn averaged 5.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in 18.3 minutes while starting 27-of-29 games for the Liberty.
Essence Carson '08 – Washington Mystics
Agreed to a deal with the Washington Mystics. The 12-year WNBA veteran spent eight seasons in New York (2008-15), three years in Los Angeles (2016-18) and one season in Phoenix (2019).
