PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Building from the hiring of head coach
Greg Schiano in Dec. 2000 to "Pandemonium in Piscataway," Big Ten Network will debut a new Rutgers football documentary on July 23 at 7:30 p.m. The 30-minute feature is produced by Awesome Films.
The documentary recalls Schiano taking over the Scarlet Knights and instilling a new culture, raising the level of recruiting and player development, in addition to rejuvenating the fan base. Hear perspective from media members, former players and others who experienced the first Schiano tenure.
"Rutgers Rise" culminates with the memorable 2006 campaign. Rutgers went 11-2, earned the program's first national top-10 ranking (peaking at No. 7) and won a bowl championship with a convincing 37-10 victory over Kansas State in the Texas Bowl. "Pandemonium in Piscataway" was achieved with a 28-25 upset of No. 3 Louisville in front a raucous home crowd and national television audience. It was the first triumph for the program over a top-25 opponent since 1988. Schiano collected the Eddie Robinson, Walter Camp, Home Depot and Liberty Mutual National Coach of the Year, as well as the Big East Coach of the Year following the season. The final national ranking of No. 12 still stands as the high-water mark in program history.
The show is part of the latest "Rutgers Day" on BTN. A replay of 2006 Texas Bowl will air at 6:30 p.m. before the documentary, while the 2007 victory over No. 2 USF will follow at 8 p.m. The triumph over the Bulls marks the highest ranked opponent defeated in program history. In addition, the 2007 offense is still the only in FBS history to include a 3,000-yard passer (Mike Teel), a 2,000-yard rusher (Ray Rice) and a pair of 1,000-yard receivers (Kenny Britt,
Tiquan Underwood).
This is the first of a two-part series. Stay tuned for the second episode, "Rutgers Return."
