Carlin Named NJ Sportscaster of the Year

Play-by-play announcer and voice of Rutgers football earns honor for second time
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football play-by-play announcer Chris Carlin was named the N.J. Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association, it was announced Monday. For Carlin, it was his second time receiving the distinction in his career.
"We are fortunate to have Chris as the voice of Rutgers football," said Rutgers Athletic Director Pat Hobbs. "He brings experience and knowledge to the broadcast each week, and his passion for the Scarlet Knights shines through. Chris has been a loyal supporter of all Rutgers sports through the years, and we are very grateful. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor."
"Congratulations to Chris and Sheryl," said Rutgers head football coach Greg Schiano. "Chris has been a big part of the program since day one. Not only has he become the voice of Rutgers football, but a trusted friend as well."
Carlin currently hosts the daily talk show "CARLIN," on 98.7-FM ESPN New York and is well known to sports radio fans throughout the State of Rutgers. He completed his 20th year calling Rutgers action from the booth, including his 17th as the play-by-play voice of Rutgers football.
Carlin, who has over two decades of experience in radio and television, is an Emmy-award-winning fixture on the New York sports scene who has produced ratings success at every stop in his professional career. He hosted afternoons on WIP in Philadelphia and WFAN in New York. Carlin began his career as producer with Mike & The Mad Dog on WFAN and later joined SNY hosting "Loud Mouths," Geico Sportsnite," as well as New York Mets pregame and postgame shows.
The NSMA will honor its winners and Hall of Fame inductees during the organization's 61st awards weekend, tentatively set for June 26-28, 2021, in Winston-Salem, N.C.
