PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women’s lacrosse head coach Melissa Lehman named Marin Hartshorn, Hannah Hollingsworth, Julia Lytle, Taralyn Naslonski and Dana Pena as captains for the 2021 season.
“I am excited to announce Hannah, Julia, TT, Dana and Marin as our captains who will lead us during the 2021 season,” Lehman said. “They lead by example and care deeply about the success of this team and their teammates both on and off the field. They have worked so hard over the past 10 months to unite this team, and I cannot wait to see what Rutgers lacrosse achieves this season with these five leading the way.”

Hartshorn has started all 25 games during her two-year collegiate career and has produced 54 career points on 29 goals and 25 assists. As a sophomore last spring, Hartshorn finished as the team leader in assists (15) and fourth in points (21) in nine games before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 Academic All-Big Ten selection burst on to the scene as a freshman in 2019, when she was a two-time Big Ten Rookie of the Week.

A key contributor during her tenure “On the Banks”, Hollingsworth has appeared in 22 career games over the past three seasons. A two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Hollingsworth produced six points on four assists and two goals last season, which included multi-point outings in wins over Lafayette and Marist.

Lytle has appeared in 31 career games in three seasons for the Scarlet Knights, producing 15 points on eight assists and seven goals during that span. The two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and 2020 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar finished last year’s abbreviated season with five points, 12 ground balls and six draw controls.

Setting up to finish as one of the top offensive players in program history, Naslonski is currently 18th in school history with 119 career points on 87 goals and 32 assists. In nine games last spring, Naslonski finished first on the team in points (28) and second in goals (24) to go along with 14 draw controls and 12 ground balls. As a sophomore in 2019, Naslonski became the first Scarlet Knight since 2010 to go over the 60 goal mark in a season. The Randolph, New Jersey, native is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.

Pena has played in 11 career games for Rutgers, which includes six appearances and a start last season. Pena produced a career game last spring against Lafayette when she secured a career-high six draw controls and caused turnovers in the win. Also a standout in the classroom, Pena is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
Rutgers shined under the guidance of Lehman in her first year, as the Scarlet Knights started last season 4-0 for the first time in 10 years. RU reeled off five victories before the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will return eight of its top-11 goal scorers from a year ago.
RU recently moved into its new home at the Gary and Barbara Rodkin Academic Success Center, which houses the program’s locker room along with men’s lacrosse, women’s soccer and men’s soccer. Located adjacent to Athlete’s Glen on the Busch Campus, the 80,000-square foot facility will be the academic hub for the athletic department and its more than 600 student-athletes.
