PISCATAWAY, N.J. – For the sixth time in his career and third time in 2021, Rutgers football punter
Adam Korsak earned the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week, the Augusta Sports Council announced Tuesday. The Scarlet Knights lead the nation with a net punt of 47.2 yards.
Â
Most recently against Michigan State, Korsak dropped 6-of-7 attempts inside the 20 and three inside the 10 with an average of 46.1 yards and a long of 57. That included only one punt return yard against and no touchbacks.
Â
Korsak has pinned 16-of-27 punts inside the 20 this year, booting 12 at least 50 yards. His current average of 48.5 yards per kick is over four yards higher than the single-season school record of 44.4 yards set by Ryan Anderson in 2017. The net punt mark is on pace to break the program standard for the fourth-straight year with Korsak as punter, calculating to 42.2 last year.
Â
A four-time member of the Ray Guy Award watch list, Korsak also won Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week following performances at Syracuse, versus Temple and on three occasions in 2019.
Â
Korsak surpassed 10,000 punt yards as a Scarlet Knight last week with 10,030, needing 67 to break the school record of 10,096 held by Mike Barr (1998-02). Of his 229 career punts, only five (2.2 percent) have resulted in touchbacks.
Â
Rutgers (3-3) travels to Northwestern (2-3) Saturday for a noon ET kickoff on Big Ten Network and the RWJBarnabas Health Rutgers Sports Network. In Korsak's previous game against the Wildcats in 2018, he launched a 79-yard punt, the longest in Rutgers history.
