PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers women's basketball (6-7) hosts Wagner (7-1) in search of a third consecutive win at Jersey Mike's Arena on Sat., Dec. 18 at 12 p.m. ET. The Scarlet Knights have outrebounded 11 of their 13 opponents this season and continue a homestand in Piscataway, where they are 55-10 (.844) since the beginning of 2017-18.

The 5 Things to Know

1. THE SCOUT
  • Wagner has won six in a row, including a 62-59 triumph over St. John's last time out on Sunday.
  • For the first time since 2014, a pair of Seahawk teammates swept the NEC weekly awards. Senior forward Emilija Krista Grava (14.0ppg) was named the NEC Player of the Week while freshman guard Lina Loceniece (6.9ppg) earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors.
  • The Seahawks rank first in the NEC in field-goal percentage defense (35.5%), scoring defense (55.0 ppg), scoring margin (6.9), steals per game (9.1 spg), three-point field goal percentage defense (20.0%), and turnovers forced (21.12). Among all teams in the NCAA, Wagner ranks fifth in the country in three-point field goal percentage defense, as they have yet to allow their opponents to convert on 30.0 percent or more from the outside.
  • Senior point Zhaneia Thybulle leads the NEC in assists (47) and assists per game (5.9 apg) as is second in minutes played, averaging 35.2 a contest.

3. HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS
 Rutgers has won two consecutive games, tipping off a four-game homestand to close out the 2021 portion of the schedule. Both wins came at home at Jersey Mike's Arena, where the Scarlet Knights improved to 6-2 on the year and 55-10 since the beginning of the 2017-18 season. Following the Wagner game, RU has a 12-day hiatus from game action before a Dec. 30 home date against another Top 10 opponent, the Indiana Hoosiers.
 
4. ALL GLASS, NO BRAKES
Rutgers has outrebounded opponents in 11 of 13 games this season with an average margin of +7.3, which ranks fourth in the Big Ten. Osh Brown leads the effort with 9.0 per game, coming in fourth individually in the conference. 
 
5. SHARING = CARING
 With 17 assists on 23 baskets in the Central Connecticut State win, Rutgers has now assisted 80 percent of its field goals over the past three games, including 24-of-30 against Delaware State and 18-of-21 at Penn State. This team set a modern-era program record in the season-opening victory over Saint Peter's assisting 95% of its field goals (21-of-22).

• Sayawni Lassier set a new career-high with seven assists in the CCSU win, passing her previous best of six with Florida State against Wake Forest on Feb. 3, 2019.

• RU has help opponents an average of 14.6 points under their season scoring averages over the past five contests.

• The Rutgers defense has held opponents under their scoring average in 30 of its last 32 games, and 117 of its last 127 dating back to 2017-18.

• Rutgers' 24 assists against Delaware State were the most in a game since 25 vs. Hampton on Dec. 18, 2020.

• Awa Sidibe (15) and Chyna Cornwell (8) both posted career-highs against Delaware State.

• RU has held opponents to 17-of-76 (.223) from three-point range over the last five games.

• Against No. 8 Maryland, Tyia Singleton recorded the second double-double (10pts, 12reb) of her career and the first since the 2020-21 regular-season finale against Ohio State. It was her fifth career game in double-figure scoring and fifth with double-digit rebounds.

• Tyia Singleton ranks fourth in the Big Ten with 1.3 blocks per game.

• Osh Brown's 20-point, 20-rebound double-double vs. DePaul was Rutgers' first in a game since Betnijah Laney's 24-24 against UNC on Dec. 5, 2014 in a 2OT game (21-20 at the end of regulation). It fell two shy of Brown's career-high of 22 rebounds, set in the 2021 NCAA Tournament last season, a Ball State program record.

• Rutgers' highest-scoring quarter has been the fourth in eight of 13 games this season – including 20 apiece against Saint Peter's, South Alabama, and No. 9 Arizona, 15 against Fairfield and Stony Brook, and 25 against Harvard.

• Rutgers ranks 10th in the country in total steals (130) and 11th in total blocks (60).

• Rutgers passed out 21 assists on its 22 field goals in the St. Peter's victory, setting a school modern-era record (since 2001-02) for the highest percentage of field goals assisted (95%).

• In the St. Peter's win, Rutgers forced its most turnovers by an opponent (34) since 38 against Penn State during the 2014-15 season.

• The nation's fourth-best steals per game team last season, Rutgers grabbed 21 steals in the 2021-22 season opener, the most since 22 at Wisconsin in Game 2 last season on Dec. 11, 2020.
