Huang, Joyner and Zannella Named Team Captains

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers gymnastics has named Belle Huang, Hannah Joyner, and Stephanie Zannella as captains for the 2021-22 season. The trio will guide the Scarlet Knights through the 2022 campaign which begins on Friday, January 7 on the road at Florida.
Huang returns for her extra year of eligibility to lead the team with her leadership and experience. A nominee for the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year Award and 2021 American Athletic, Inc. (AAI) Award, Huang has competed in 50 meets as a Scarlet Knight. As an all-arounder for RU, she has eclipsed a career best of 39.350 in the event. The team captain owns personal-best marks of 9.925 on beam and floor, both of which rank among the top three highest scores of Rutgers individual event records.
A two-time All-Big Ten selection and three-time NCAA qualifier, Huang also excels as a biological sciences major, earning three WCGA Scholastic All-America, three Academic All-Big Ten, and three Big Ten Distinguished Scholar accolades. She was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national the National College Athlete Honor Society, in fall of 2020. Huang is working towards her masters in microbial biology.
Joyner made history as the third Rutgers gymnast to compete at Nationals, becoming the first to qualify to the highest stage on beam in 2021. The then-sophomore also became the first Scarlet Knight to have reached a 9.9 on all four events, posting career bests of 9.950 on beam, 9.900 on bars, beam and floor. She owns a 39.450 career-high score in all-around.
The Waldorf, Maryland, native eclipsed 9.9 on beam six times last season and 13 times in her career, standing as RU's record holder in total career 9.9s.The social work major was named a 2021 Academic All-Big Ten and WCGA Scholastic All-America selection for her work in the classroom.
Zannella made her collegiate debut for the Scarlet Knights in 2021. As a freshman, she entered the lineup and competed on vault, beam and floor. She owns a career-high of 9.875 on beam and a 9.750 on floor. The Belle Mead, New Jersey, native was named a WCGA Scholastic All-America selection for eclipsing a grade-point average of 3.50 or higher in her first year as a Scarlet Knight.
