Top Drawer Soccer honored the Rutgers sophomore with national recognition after four points in two games
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sophomore midfielder Jackson Temple of Rutgers men's soccer has been named to the National Team of the Week by Top Drawer Soccer.
The Millville, Pa. native had his hand in all three Rutgers goals through the first two games of the 2021 Spring season. He assisted both tallies in the 2-0 victory at Michigan State on Friday, which was the program's first win against the Spartans and the first win a Big Ten opener since 2014. Temple then scored RU's goal in the 2-1 setback to No. 20 Penn State on Tuesday, burying a penalty in the 33rd minute to draw the Scarlet Knights even.
"We've asked Jackson to make some sacrifices and expand his game," said head coach Jim McElderry. "He's going to score some goals for us, for sure, but he's expanding his role on the attack. He was so dangerous this past week, causing a lot of problems for teams trying to play out of the back. He can set up goals and was close to a couple more assists. He works so hard, defends well, and gets involved in the attacking opportunities. He's been great so far, and it should be just the beginning."
In the Michigan State victory, Temple slotted a perfect pass to Ritchie Barry on goal for the opening score, then was credited with an assist on the second goal. He shot on goal was saved by a diving keeper, spilling into the path of Colin Beasley who made it 2-0 against the Spartans.
Temple took a game-high four shots in the win, two of which were on goal, while playing in all 90 minutes. The former Philadelphia Union Academy star ranks fourth in the Big Ten with his 2.0 points per game through two contests.
The Scarlet Knights are back in action Saturday, Feb. 27 at Wisconsin for a 7:30 p.m. ET kick.
