Feb 24 | Men's Soccer
Sophomore goalkeeper posted a five-save shutout at Michigan State to earn the program's first Defensive Player of the Week honor since 2016
The is Rutgers' second Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor since joining the conference in 2014, and the first since David Greczek got the nod four seasons ago in September 2016.
Asher made five saves in the 2-0 shutout victory at Michigan State on Friday, Rutgers' first win against the Spartans and the program's first victory in a conference opener since 2014. Four of the five stops came during crunch time to preserve the clean sheet, making stops in the 72nd, 73rd, 84th and 89th minutes.
The Scarlet Knight keeper made an acrobatic stop with his lower body on a point-blank redirection within the six-yard box late in the game, preserving his fourth career shutout. Asher started the year with a clean sheet after tying for the Big Ten lead in 2019 with three. The Israel native added three saves in a 2-1 setback against No. 20 Penn State on Tuesday.
Asher and the Scarlet Knights are back in action Saturday, Feb. 27 at Wisconsin for a 7:30 p.m. ET kick.
