Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Temple Scores & Asher Saves a PK in 1-0 Men’s Soccer Win at Wisconsin

Both Scarlet Knight victories this season have come by shutout

LOVES PARK, Ill. – Rutgers men's soccer (2-1-0) scored a 1-0 win at Wisconsin (0-3-0) on Saturday evening indoors at Mercyhealth Sportscore.

Jackson Temple scored the contest's loan goal early in the 50th minutes and goalkeeper Oren Asher saved a penalty kick in the 55th to preserve the shutout victory. The sophomore keeper recorded Rutgers' second clean sheet of the year, which is tied for tops in the Big Ten through three match days.

Freshman forward Ola Maeland created the goal-scoring opportunity with a deep run into the attacking third early in the second half. Maeland's back pass to Nick Cruz was served one-time into the box, where after a bounce, Kyle Galloway collected and ripped a shot that was blocked fortuitously into Temple's path. The sophomore struck the rebound into the top left shelf for the 1-0 lead.

Asher stopped a Badger penalty kick mere minutes after Temple opened scoring, keeping the sheet clean and RU ahead. The sophomore keeper reacted to his right and punched the penalty back into play, with the Rutgers defense eventually clearing and everyone in scarlet letting Asher hear their appreciation.

The Scarlet Knights head home to host No. 23 Maryland on Wednesday, March 3 at 12 p.m.
