KYLE, Texas – Rutgers women's golf tied for ninth at the Texas State Invitational on Tuesday in Kyle, Texas. It marked the first competition for the Scarlet Knights since their 2020 spring season was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After she carded a one-under-par in her RU debut on Monday, Manon Tounalom tied for 24th (223: 71-77-75) in the 79-player field to pace the team at the Plum Creek Golf Course. Maeve Rossi (224: 70-77-77), who also added an under-par scorecard in the opening round, tied for 31st, while newcomer Sun Hwang tied for 33rd (225:73-75-72). Anna-Maria Diederichs (235: 76-83-76) and rookie Rikke Nordvik (239: 82-83-74) tied for 59th and 66th, respectively, as Nordvik produced the lowest 18-hole mark for Rutgers in the final round with a two-over-par 74.
"I was proud to see Rikke bounce back in the final round today," said head coach Kari Williams. "We gave back a few shots at the end of the second round, but everyone competed hard in the afternoon. It was great to be competing again and we're looking forward to our next event."
Tulsa captured the team title with a five-under-par 859 (282-284-293), followed by UTSA (861: 291-289-281) and Sam Houston State (872: 288-289-295). Sam Houston State's Hanna Alberto secured individual honors with her 15-under-par 201 (67-66-68).
Tounalom led the Scarlet Knights and tied for second in the field with 37 pars. Rossi produced a team-high nine birdies during her three rounds of play, while Nordvik added an eagle on a par-five during the second round, which was resumed Tuesday morning after it was delayed due to darkness the night prior.
