Mar 23 | Women's Golf
KENNESAW, Ga. – Graduate student Manon Tounalom came in under par during her final 18 holes and Rutgers women's golf carded its lowest round of the tournament as the Scarlet Knights finished play at the Pinetree Invitational on Tuesday in Kennesaw, Georgia. Sophomore Anna-Maria Diederichs tied for 11th to lead RU in the 62-player field.
Rutgers finished ninth in the 10-team field with a 911 (313-300-298). No. 5 Florida State won the team title with its two-under-par 862 ((291-284-306), followed by host Kennesaw State (+23) and East Tennessee State (+28). Florida State's Beatrice Wallin earned individual honors with her four-under-par 212 (74-65-73).
"I was happy to see Manon and Rikke bounced back today with improved play in the final round," said head coach Kari Williams. "Anna-Maria put together another solid event and led the way for us. We did a better job today of minimizing the mistakes and managing ourselves around the golf course. We have a few days to put in some great work at practice to prepare for our next event at Pinehurst."
Diedrichs added a two-over-par 74 in the final round to clinch her second top-15 finish of the spring, also doing so at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational last month in Greensboro, Georgia. Junior Maeve Rossi tied for 25th after she finished her tournament with a team-high seven birdies, while Tounalom moved up nine spots on the leaderboard with her one-under-par 71 in the final round to tie for 43rd. Tounalom's 71 was one of just three scores in the entire field under par on Tuesday with wind gusts averaging more than 12 miles-per-hour. Sophomore Leigha Devine and freshman Rikke Nordvik rounded out the team scorecard tied for 53rd and 58th, respectively. Sophomore Sun Hwang finished 60th competing as an individual.
Rutgers remains on its spring break trip and competes from March 29-30 at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
