Mar 24 | Men's Golf
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Senior Christopher Gotterup was named Big Ten Men's Golfer of the Week, announced Wednesday by the conference office. The weekly accolade comes after Gotterup finished runner up at the Schenkel Invitational over the weekend in Statesboro, Georgia.
The reigning Big Ten Player of the Year tied for second in the loaded 80-player field with his five-under-par 211 (71-69-71) at the Forest Heights Country Club. His tied-for-second result marked the eighth top-5 individual finish of his collegiate career and his highest finish since he claimed the Fighting Irish Classic on Oct. 8, 2019 in South Bend.
Gotterup came in under par in all three of his rounds, which included a three-under-par 69 on Saturday sandwiched between one-under-par 71s on Friday and Sunday. The Little Silver, New Jersey, native finished the weekend with a team-high 11 birdies and an eagle on a par-5 during Saturday's second round. In total, 47 of his 54 holes came at or below par.
This marks the second Big Ten weekly award of Gotterup's career after he earned weekly laurels in 2019 after his win at the Fighting Irish Classic. Currently No. 24 in the latest PGA Tour University rankings, Gotterup owns a 71.54 adjusted scoring average through three stroke-play events this spring.
Rutgers men's golf returns to the links from April 2-3 at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate in Charlotte, N.C.
