Perry Bestowed USTFCCCA Regional Field Athlete of the Year

PISCATAWAY, N.J.  –  Redshirt-senior Perry Christie has been named the NCAA DI Mid-Atlantic Region Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the organization announced Thursday.

The honor comes after Christie claimed the Big Ten Indoor Title in the high jump last weekend. He cleared a height of 2.18m (7' 1.75") to outpace the second-place jumper by two and three-quarter inches.

Christie, who owns the school record in the event at 2.23m, adds to his bronze finish in the high jump at the 2020 Big Ten Indoor Championships. The East Orange, New Jersey, native earned First Team All-Big Ten honors for his efforts at the conference championships.

Additionally, this season Christie finished first in the high jump in three out of four meets this season, all against Big Ten opponents.

Christie qualified for his second straight NCAA Indoor Championship following his gold-medal performance last weekend. He will compete in the high jump on Friday, March 12 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Rutgers adds another USTFCCCA Athlete of the Year to the program record books. Christie marks the second Scarlet Knight in recent years to earn the honor, joining letterwinner Rudy Winkler who earned the USTFCCCA Regional Field Athlete of the Year in 2018.
