O’Neil Sets School Record at Wake Forest Invitational
Apr 17 | Track & Field
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Rutgers track and field sent its distance squad to the Wake Forest Invitational and Kelseigh O'Neil delivered a school-record performance at the two-day meet on Thursday, April 16.
"This was our first year coming down to Wake Forest for this meet and it did not disappoint," said Nicol Starkes, associate head coach. "Kelseigh ran a gutsy 10k in pretty warm conditions to set the school record and put herself closer to an NCAA first round mark. Gavin ran a strong personal-best in the steeple to solidify his spot for NCAAs. In the 1,500, Kyle put together a solid race to also run a PB."
The Scarlet Knights posted a trio of times that landed on the school's top-10 all-time list. O'Neil broke the school record in the 10,000-meter with a time of 34:20.94, eclipsing an almost 46-year old record previously set by Nancy Seeger (34:27.56) at the Rutgers Relays on April 18, 1980.
Gavin Rossi ran the second-fastest time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking a time of 8:51.00 and Kyle Rakitis added to the top-10 performances as his time in the 1,500-meter ranked eight all-time, finishing with a time of 3:47.25.
Rutgers will return to its home track to host the 2026 IC4A/ECAC Championships at the Bauer Track and Field Complex on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19.
