Softball Drops Saturday Doubleheader With Wisconsin

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Wisconsin took two from Rutgers softball on an overcast day at the Rutgers Softball Complex on Saturday. 
 

Wisconsin 5, Rutgers 0

STANDOUT STATS
  • Leilani Chavez led the Scarlet Knights at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double.
  • Graduate student Gabrielle Callaway also recorded a double, her fifth of the year, to finish 1-for-2 in the opener.
  • Graduate student Izzy Berouty threw for 6.0 innings striking out a season-high five, one shy of tying her career mark
THE RUNDOWN
  • For the second-straight game Wisconsin's Peyton Bannon led off with a home run to left field to put the Badgers ahead.
  • Wisconsin added two runs on both the fifth and sixth.
  • Back-to-back hits, first a double from Lauren Foster into left followed by a single thru the right side by Christaana Angelopulos saw the Badgers go up 3-0 in the fifth.
  • In the sixth, Skylar Sirdashney and Ally Miklesh opened with singles leading to an Alyssa McClelland base hit into right to score her teammates.

STANDOUT STATS
THE RUNDOWN
  • Three hits led to three runs for the Badgers to open game two with RBIs coming from Abby Herbest, Christaana Angelopulos and Skylar Sirdashney.
  • Wisconsin added two more in the top of the second on an extra-base hit by Fiona Girardot.
  • Rutgers got its lone run in the bottom of the second. The Scarlet Knights led off with a single by freshman Kayla Bock thru the right side of the infield setting up Chavez to knock in the RU run on a triple to right field.
  • Wisconsin, however, would extend its lead capitalizing on loading the bases for two runs in the fourth, as well as a solo home run to left from Girardot in the fifth and leadoff shot over the right-field wall for Angelopulos.
