PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers softball was able to half its deficit after Maryland took lead to open Saturday's contest at the RU Softball Complex, but the Terps would stay in front to top the Scarlet Knights, 6-2, on Senior Day.
Fifth-year senior
Hailey Hoklotubbe made her senior day memorable collecting her first career home run helping RU to pull within a pair of runs in the third. Maryland, however, added two more runs for the game's final score.
Maryland 6, Rutgers 2
- Fifth-year senior Hailey Hoklotubbe hit 2-for-3 on her senior day knocking in her first career home run.
- Sophomore Payton Lincavage was responsible for an RBI on her fifth double of the season.
- Classmate Taylor Lane finished 1-for-2 with a run scored.
- Graduate student Izzy Berouty made the start while sophomore Ashley Hitchock finished the final 5.1 with three strikeouts.
- The Terps jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first off of a grand slam from the bat of Sammie Stefan.
- Rutgers halved its deficit in the bottom of the third. Hoklotubbe belted her first career home run with a solo blast over the right-field fence to put the Scarlet Knights onto the scoreboard.
- Lane reached on a single up the middle on the next at-bat and scored as Lincavage doubled to left-center for RU to trail 4-2.
- Maryland added insurance runs in the fifth and seventh. Michaela Jones struck with a solo homer in the fifth and Caitlyn Koening walked with the bases loaded in the seventh.
