PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers softball closed out its final homestand with a 4-1 setback to Maryland to Sunday afternoon at the RU Softball Complex.
Maryland 4, Rutgers 1
- Fifth-year Hailey Hoklotubbe hit 2-for-3 in her final home game as a Scarlet Knight.
- Graduate student Kiana Workman was 1-for-3 scoring RU's lone run in her last appearance at the RU Softball Complex.
- Sophomore Payton Lincavage went 1-for-3 scoring Workman on a base hit in the seventh.
- Sophomore Ashley Hitchcock threw 6.0 innings fanning five Terps in a contest for a second time this weekend.
- Maryland scored four runs in the second inning. JoJo McRae singled to left to score a run while a miscue allowed two more Terps to cross home plate. Jaeda McFarland then punched in a run with a double to left-center for the 4-0 advantage.
- A double to left by Workman and single thru the left side from Hoklotubbe put two a pair of base runners on for the Scarlet Knights in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Lincavage singled up the middle scoring Hoklotubbe bringing the game-tying run to the plate. RU, however, was stopped from advancing any more runners.
- Hoklotubbe finished the weekend hitting .444 (4-for-9), including her first career home run, and scored a pair of runs.
- Workman batted .273 with a double and home run and two runs scored.
- Lincavage collected two runs batted in and a double.
- Hitchcock totaled 18.1 innings inside the circle with 13 strikeouts.

The Rutgers softball team travels to No. 19 Michigan to close out the 2021 season. The series begins on Friday, May 14 with the Saturday doubleheader on May 15 airing on BTN.
