Five Scarlet Knights Set for 2020 U.S. Track and Field Olympic Team Trials

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Five Rutgers track and field members are set to compete at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials from June 18-27 in Eugene, Oregon. Current Scarlet Knight Taj Burgess (400m) and former Scarlet Knights Corey Crawford (Long Jump), James Plummer (Discus Throw), Erin Taylor-Talcott (20K Racewalk) and Rudy Winkler (Hammer Throw) are all hopefuls for Team USA.
Burgess picked up Second Team All-America honors in the 400m last week at the 2021 NCAA Championships, marking his third straight outdoor All-America recognition and fifth in the event overall. The redshirt-junior clocked a personal-best time of 45.55 at NCAA Regionals this season. Burgess ranks top 30 in the United States in the event with his PR time.
Winkler, a four-time First Team All-American, NCAA champion and Big Ten champion, ranks second in the world in the hammer throw with a mark of 81.98m (268' 11"). He competed at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics as the U.S. Olympic Trials champion in the hammer throw.
Crawford ranks in the top 10 in the world in the long jump, standing at seventh with a leap of 8.29m (27' 2.5"). He a four-time All-American and four-time conference champion in the event.
Taylor-Talcott is generally recognized as most outstanding long distance racewalker in American history. She was the first woman to compete with the men's race walk when the 50k race walk opened from being a men's only event to a blind gender event.
Plummer became an IC4A, BIG EAST and Penn Relays champion in the discus while "On the Banks". The 2013 First Team All-American currently ranks top 20 in the United States with a mark of 60.20 (197' 6").
NBC and NBCSN will provide coverage over eight nights, including six in primetime on NBC. Track & Field coverage from Hayward Field begins on Friday, June 18, at 7:00 p.m. ET on NBCSN, with qualifying, and continues at 10:00 p.m. ET on NBC, with the finals in men's shot put and men's 10,000m. Live coverage concludes on Sunday, June 27, at 7:00 p.m. ET on NBC with numerous events, including the men's 200m and women's 400m hurdles finals.
NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app will present exclusive streaming coverage of select field events, including long jump, pole vault, shot put, hammer, javelin, discus, 20km race walk, decathlon and heptathlon from Eugene.
