Big Ten Announces Women's Basketball Conference Opponents

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Big Ten Conference announced its breakdown of opponents for each of its women's basketball programs for the 2021-22 season on Thursday. The conference schedule is back to an 18-game slate with the Scarlet Knights facing five schools both at home and on the road and playing the eight remaining schools once. Of the single-play opponents, RU will play four at home and four on the road.

Rutgers is set for home-and-home matchups with Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State, and Purdue and will also welcome Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, and Wisconsin to the RAC this winter. Single-game road contests include matchups at Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska and Northwestern.

Dates and times for conference games, as well as the remaining nonconference portion of the 2021-22 schedule, will be announced at a later date.

Eight Big Ten schools reached the postseason in 2020-21 with Rutgers among the record-tying seven conference teams dancing in the NCAA Tournament. Big Ten Tournament champion Maryland, along with NCAA participants Indiana, Iowa, and Michigan State are scheduled to visit the RAC this season.

Under the direction of Hall of Fame head coach C. Vivian Stringer, the Scarlet Knights ranked as high as No. 19 in the country and made their 26th appearance in the NCAA Tournament with its highest seed since 2012. Rutgers went 14-5 overall last year, which included a nine-game Big Ten win streak, the program's longest in conference play since 2006.
