Scarlet Knights ranked second in the Big Ten in net punt last season
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football punter Adam Korsak was selected to the Ray Guy Award watch list released Wednesday by the Augusta Sports Council. The award honors the nation's best collegiate punter. This is the fourth-straight year Korsak has earned a spot on this watch list.
In 2020, Korsak helped Rutgers to a net punt of 42.27 yards, second-best in the Big Ten. The mark ranked eighth nationally and reset the school record for the third consecutive season. Overall, the Aussie averaged 43.0 yards on 48 attempts, which is the fourth-best punting average in a season in program history. That included eight of at least 50 yards with a long of 66 versus Illinois, recording no touchbacks, forcing 22 fair catches and pinning 21 inside the 20. Against Nebraska, Korsak executed a fake punt on his first career rushing attempt to gain 17 yards for a first down.
The team captain was voted Second Team All-Big Ten by the media for his third Big Ten recognition in three years. He has also earned Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar status.
Korsak has averaged 43.2 yards on 202 career attempts, downing 75 inside the 20 with just five touchbacks. He has recorded 30 punts of at least 50 yards, including a school-record boot of 79 yards in 2018 versus Northwestern.
Semifinalists for the Ray Guy Award will be announced Nov. 10. This marks the fifth watch list selection for the Scarlet Knights, with Olakunle Fatukasi earning a spot for the Bednarik Award, Butkus Award and Nagurski Trophy, while Bo Melton was picked for the Biletnikoff Award.
Under the direction of head coach Greg Schiano, Rutgers matched its program high with three Big Ten victories in 2020. The Scarlet Knights had 14 players recognized in the All-Big Ten voting, the most for the program since joining the league. In addition, RU posted a team-best 26.7 points per game in a Big Ten season, a gain of 13.4 points per game from the previous season for the fourth-best improvement nationally. The defense collected 19 takeaways and led the conference with 7.8 tackles-for-loss, while the kick return units were one of four nationally with at least three kick return touchdowns. Academically, Rutgers saw 46 student-athletes earn Academic All-Big Ten honors, a program high.
Rutgers opens the season Sept. 2 versus Temple at SHI Stadium in a game presented by PNC. Click here for information on season tickets.
