WOLCOTT, Colo. – With weather shortening play to just two rounds, Rutgers women's golf finished action at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic on Tuesday in Wolcott, Colorado. Rookie Lucrezia Rossettin tied for 13th with an even 144 (69-75) to lead the Scarlet Knights in the competitive field.
RU was one of just a handful of teams to complete the second round on Tuesday, the second round featured a two-hour storm delay and 10 mile-per-hour wind gusts once play resumed. The rest of the field finished the second round Wednesday morning, with the third round will not be contested.
The Scarlet Knights tied for 10th in the 20-team field with their 18-over-par 594 (288-306). With incomplete scorecards, East Tennessee captured the team title with its six-under-par 570 (279-291), followed by Denver (-5) and Brigham Young (+1). Denver's Anna Cathrine Krekling earned individual honors with her six-under-par 138 (66-72)
"It was a challenging day out on this golf course," said head coach Kari Williams. "The pins were in difficult positions and really tested the discipline of our team with their shots into the green. We got off to a slow start but buckled down on the back nine to hold our rounds together after a long weather delay. Lucrezia put together a solid event for us and made great progress with her scoring this week. We saw good stretches of play this week and we were able to take advantage of the scoring opportunities out there. We will have a week back in New Jersey to focus our practice efforts and get prepared for our final event of the fall.
In just her third collegiate event, Rossettin fired off a three-under-par 69 in the first round on Monday and finished with an even scorecard to close out her impressive tournament. Junior Leigha Devine also secured a three-under-par 69 in the opening round the day prior en route to her four-over-par 148 (69-79) to tie for 38th.
Sophomore Rikke Nordvik carded the lowest second round score for RU with her two-over-par 74 after she rolled in four birdies on holes two, 12, 15 and 16. Nordvik tied for 42nd. Junior Sun Hwang and senior Maeve Rossi rounded out the team scorecard.
Rutgers closes the fall at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate from Oct. 8-10 in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
