2022 Tennis Season Preview
Jan 20 | Women's Tennis
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers tennis is set to begin the 2022 Spring season on Saturday, January 22 at the East Brunswick Racquet Club. Building off a year filled with adversity, the Scarlet Knights look to carry the momentum from their successes in 2021.
The program powered through last year's competition, going on to record the most Big Ten victories in a single season and its first Big Ten Tournament appearance. RU posted victories over Michigan State, Indiana and two over Maryland. In a slate that featured multiple ranked opponents, the Scarlet Knights recorded 30 doubles victories and 16 singles victories across dual and tournament action. In the classroom, all six student-athletes who were eligible this semester earned Academic All-Big Ten accolades, boosting a team term GPA of 3.788.
Head Coach Hilary Ritchie, who enters her sixth season at the helm, previewed the season on the latest episode of the "Inside Rutgers Athletics" Podcast, presented by RWJBarnabas Health.
The squad, led by senior captain Tess Fisher, returns six letterwinners and welcomes two newcomers. Fisher is joined by fellow seniors Sydney Kaplan and Kristiana Zahare, while sophomores Chloe Brown, Daira Cardenas, and Alisa Prinyarux round out the returners. Freshmen Minchae Kim and Jackeline Lopez are set for their first spring season as Scarlet Knights.
The 2022 schedule consists of nine Big Ten contests and 14 non-conference matchups, including a mix of 12 at home and 11 on the road. The Big Ten Tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, April 27 to Sunday, May 1. It will be hosted by the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
