CLEMSON, S.C. – Rutgers track and field split its squad this weekend, sending Scarlet Knights to meets in Boston, Staten Island and Clemson on Friday, Jan. 28 and Saturday, Jan. 29. For the fourth-straight meet, RU posted a school-record performance as freshman
Alex Carlson established a new time in the mile run.
"It's been great to get this level of performances so far with several ranked in the top 10 in the NCAA," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country
Bobby Farrell. "We're generally being very patient with this team, making sure we're focused on fundamentals and preparing to be at our best in May and June."
Carlson initially set the school record in the mile in her collegiate indoor debut at the Jim Green Invitational two weeks into the season. On Friday at the Terrier Classic, Carlson shaved nearly seven seconds off that previous time to reset the Rutgers record with a time of 4:36.70.
In addition to Carlson's top-10 time, junior
A'nan Bridgett and freshman
Sincere Robinson added performances that ranked in the top-10 on the NCAA qualifying list at Clemson. Bridgett finished fourth with a distance of 7.89m (25' 10.75"), while Robinson jumped 7.76m (25' 5.50") to place fifth.
The men's distance team traveled to Staten Island for the Great Dane Classic hosted by University at Albany. Senior
Billy Hill captured a second-place finish in the 800-meter, clocking a time of 1:52.31.
The sprinters and jumpers competed at the Bob Pollock Invitational on the campus of Clemson on Friday and Saturday. There, the Scarlet Knights turned in several top-five finishes and personal best performances.
Freshman
Chloe Timberg claimed her third win of the indoor season in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 4.21m (13' 9.75"). Sophomore
Ka'Leila Abrille took the runner-up spot, recording a heigh of 4.16m (13' 7.75") to finish second. On the men's side,
Nico Morales finished second in the pole vault with a mark of 4.65m (15' 3").
Senior
Perry Christie took third in the high jump, reaching a heigh of 2.14m (7' 0.25").
On the track,
Icisys Sadler gave the women's team a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.39, while
Taj Burgess took fifth in the 400-meter for the men with a time of 47.25.
The Scarlet Knights will travel to Notre Dame for the Meyo Invitational on Feb. 4, before returning home to host the Rutgers Open at The Armory on Feb. 11.
