Shug Dickson Scores 1,000th Career Point in Loss at No. 8/7 Michigan

The Scarlet Knights are now the only team in the country with five 1,000-point scorers on the 2021-22 roster

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Rutgers women's basketball (7-10, 0-5) dropped a Big Ten contest at Michigan (13-2, 4-1) by a score of 76-47 at Crisler Center on Sunday afternoon.

Lasha Petree, a Detroit, Michigan native playing in front of family in Ann Arbor, netted 19 points for her highest Rutgers output since transferring in from Bradley. Petree made two three-pointers and was perfect from the free throw line at 6-of-6.

Shug Dickson scored her 1,000th collegiate point on a three-pointer in the second quarter, cementing the Scarlet Knights as the only team in the NCAA to roster five 1,000-point scorers during the 2021-22 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lasha Petree's block, board, and bucket kept Rutgers close over the first five minutes before Michigan went on a 12-0 run, and an extended 17-2 stretch, to take a double-digit lead in the first period at 17-6.
  • Both offenses were firing in the second as Rutgers made 5-of-6 shots during a stretch capped by Shug Dickson's 1,000th career point on a made triple. Michigan kept pace with 6-of-7 during that stretch, helping the Wolverines to a 44-25 lead at the break.
  • Tyia Singleton scored five points in the third, but an 8-0 Wolverine spurt had the home team up by 30.
  • RU ended the game on a 6-0 run, powered by four Petree free throws.
KNIGHT NOTES
  • Shug Dickson scored her 1,000th career point. Rutgers is now the only team in the nation to roster five 1,000-point scorers this season. Dickson scored 913 points at Tulsa and Mizzou before transferring to Rutgers.
  • Shug Dickson recorded three or more steals in a game (4 vs. Michigan) for the fifth time in her career.
  • Double-figure scoring career marks: Petree (73rd), Dickson (45th).
  • The Starting 5 of Shug Dickson, Sayawni Lassiter, Lasha Petree, Tyia Singleton, and Osh Brown took the floor for the second time this season as a starting unit.
  • Rutgers is now 6-4 all-time against Michigan, 5-4 as Big Ten regular season opponents, and 1-4 at Crisler Center.
