Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls to No. 8 Maryland

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers men's soccer team (5-2-4, 2-1-1) dropped a tough 3-2 decision to No. 8 Maryland (7-1-2, 3-0-1) on Tuesday afternoon.  

The contest originally scheduled for 7 p.m. at Yurcak Field, was moved to 3:45 p.m. at the Miller Family Soccer Complex due to inclement weather.  

MD Myers scored back-to-back goals in the 30th and 22nd minutes to give the Scarlet Knights a convincing 2-0 lead.  

Three minutes later, the Terrapins found the back of the net to cut into RU's lead, 2-1, and cap the first half.  

Out of the locker room, Maryland continued to attack on offense, tallying two more goals in the second 45 minutes to take home the 3-2 win.

Game Notes  

  • Myers' brace against the Terps marks his third of the season. He also scored a pair of goals against Omaha (8/25) and Yale (9/5). He now leads the team with nine goals and 21 points.  
  • Through 11 games this campaign, the Myers has scored in six outings and registered points in seven. 
  • With an assist on Myers' first goal, Thomas DeVizio has now earned points in consecutive games, after recording a goal against Ohio State (Sept. 30).  
  • The 3-2 decision marks the first contest the Scarlet Knights have dropped at home this season.  
  • With seven points, RU is now tied with Michigan State for second in the Big Ten with seven points.  
  • The Scarlet Knights have seen 11 unique goal scorers through 11 games for 26 points. Myers (9), Temple (5), Bouregy (3) and Avila (2) all have multiple goals.  
  • 16 Scarlet Knights saw the pitch on Friday night. Goalkeeper Aurie Briscoe in addition to Joey Zalinsky, Hugo Le Guennec, DeVizio, Cole Cruthers and Matthew Acosta played the entire 90 minutes.  

Looking Ahead   

Rutgers will continue its home stand on Sunday, Oct. 9 against Indiana, for a 12 p.m. start.
