Korsak Named Semifinalist for Ray Guy Award
Nov 21 | Football
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – P Adam Korsak represents Rutgers football as one of 10 semifinalists for the Ray Guy Award, the Augusta Sports Council announced Monday. The marks the third time in his career Korsak has made the list, including reaching the finals and winning the fan vote in 2021.
A voting panel will next narrow the field to three finalists for the Ray Guy Award, announced Nov. 29. Fans will once again have one vote and can support by clicking here.
The Aussie has led a punt unit that ranks first in the nation with -10 return yards against, allowing no positive returns in 65 attempts. In punts this season from the Rutgers 40 and closer (27 attempts), he has downed 13 inside the 10, 19 at the 15 or closer and four at the 20 (two touchbacks) with nothing higher than the 21. The average drive start for the opponent in the situation is the 12.
Overall, the Scarlet Knights are fourth nationally in net punting average at 43.46. That includes 29 downed inside the 20, 29 fair catches and a muff recovered to lead to a touchdown. Korsak has booted 12 at least 50 yards, blasting a season-long 77-yarder at Minnesota to set a stadium record. He has been recognized on the weekly Ray's 8 seven times in 2022, winning national punter of the week on two occasions.
Korsak holds the NCAA records for career punting yards (14,876) and attempts (339). He has never had a punt blocked or returned for a touchdown, with 41.9 percent of kicks downed inside the 20 with just seven touchbacks (2.0 percent). He had a streak of 150 consecutive punts over 27 games without a touchback.
Korsak is just one of two players in Rutgers history to be voted a captain three times. In addition, the three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection previously earned a spot as a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.
Rutgers concludes the schedule Saturday at Maryland. Kickoff is set for noon on Big Ten Network and the RWJBarnabas Health Rutgers Sports Network.
