Young Invited to Hula Bowl

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football DB Avery Young earned an invitation to compete in the Hula Bowl, the all-star game announced this week. The event is set for Jan. 14, 2023, at UCF FBC Mortgage Stadium in Orlando, Florida, and will be televised on CBS Sports Network.

Young has played in 56 games for the Scarlet Knights with 53 starts in the secondary. The Pennsylvania native owns 318 career tackles, needing five more to move into the top-10 in program history. He has also defended 26 passes with three interceptions.

Most recently, Young had 12 tackles with a sack and forced fumble versus Penn State. The team captain also totaled double-digit stops versus Michigan (11) and Minnesota (13) this season.

Previous Scarlet Knights to represent at the Hula Bowl include Isiah Pacheco (2022), Shaun O'Hara (1999), Bryan Fortay (1994), Tyronne Stowe (1987) and "JJ" Jennings (1974).

Rutgers concludes the schedule Saturday at Maryland. Kickoff is set for noon on Big Ten Network and the RWJBarnabas Health Rutgers Sports Network.
