NEW YORK – Rutgers track and field opened the indoor season Friday, hosting the Rutgers Holiday Classic at the famed Armory Track and Field Center.
Chloe Timberg and
Kassidy Johnson posted school records in their respective events to highlight 15 marks on the top-10 all-time performance list.
"It was a great opener," said Bobby Farrell, director of track & field and cross country. "I think a meet this early, we competed very well and with confidence. Time to get back to work and prepare for January."
Timberg, the school record holder in the pole vault, topped her previous mark by nearly three inches as she cleared a height of 4.40m (14' 5.25"). Johnson ran 2:47.04 in the 1,000-meter to eclipse the top Rutgers time in the event and etch her name in the record books.
The Scarlet Knights won 13 events on both the men's and women's sides, including going 1-2 in seven events.
On the track, Chris Serro won the 60-meter in 7.99, followed by
Al-Tariq Dunson who finished second in 8.02. Freshmen
Greg McQueen and
Joshua Babe took the top two spots in the 300-meter with McQueen winning the event in 33.51, while Babe finished second in 34.33.
Justin Cornetta finished second in the 3,000-meter running a time of 8:24.70.
For the women's squad,
Dennisha Page ran 39.32 to win the 300-meter, followed by
Shanelle Colmon in third with a time of 40.55.
Alex Carlson posted a victory for the Scarlet Knights in the 3,000-meter as she clocked a time of 9:27.25.
Sofia Condron finished runner-up in the 1,000-meter with a time of 2:56.96 to give Rutgers the top two times in the event.
In the field events, the Scarlet Knights went 1-2 in the long jump, high jump and weight throw on the men's side.
A'nan Bridgett won the long jump with a distance of 7.83m (25' 8.25"), followed by
Sincere Robinson who took second with a mark of 7.78m (25' 6.25"). Robinson won the high jump, clearing the bar at 2.07m (6' 9.5"), while
Foluso Adedeji finished second with a height of 2.04m (6' 8.25").
Kyle Lipscomb won the weight throw with a distance of 18.53m (60' 9.5") and
Adam Hunt took second with a mark of 18.50m (60' 8.5").
Rutgers was also victorious in the men's pole vault as
Kevin O'Sullivan cleared a height of 4.85m (15' 11").
The women's squad earned a win in the triple jump, weight throw and shot put.
Claudine Smith recorded a jump of 12.30m (40' 4.25") to finish first in the triple jump.
Alicia Campbell won the weight throw with a personal best throw of 17.98m (59').
Jasmine Van Note led Rutgers in the shot put, winning the event with a throw of 15.62m (51' 3"), followed by Teyana Ames who placed second with a throw of 13.59m (44' 7"). Ames took second in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.70m (5' 7"), while
India Norman placed second in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 5.40m (17' 8.75").
