PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Rutgers women's golf closed out its successful appearance at the 2022 Big Ten Match Play on Tuesday in Palm Harbor, Florida. The Scarlet Knights lost to No. 6 seed Penn State in Tuesday's final round, but delivered head-to-head wins over No. 8 seed Indiana and No. 9 seed Iowa on Monday during the conference match play event. 

Junior Sun Hwang and sophomore Rikke Nordvik carded individual wins against the Nittany Lions on Tuesday. Hwang went 3-0 in her head-to-head matchups during the two-day event, while Nordik added two wins and a tie.

"My game was a lot sharper today and I played better from tee to green," Nordvik said. It was important on this course to play smart and to take advantage of the scoring opportunities when they came up. The match play was a good challenge for us to compete against conference opponents and we're motivated to keep working hard."

RU shined on the course during the tournament's opening two rounds, as Hwang, senior Maeve Rossi, junior Nicole Ewing and rookie Lucrezia Rossettin all delivered two individual wins against Indiana and Iowa on Monday. In total, Rutgers secured 10 wins and a tie out of 18 opportunities.

"We knew Penn State was going to be a tough opponent but we competed hard today," said head coach Kari Williams. "Rikke bounced back and played well today, and Sun fought hard to post her win. There are a few areas of our games to work on as we get ready for Tulane in a few weeks. 

Rutgers competes at the Tulane Classic from Feb. 13-15 in New Orleans.
