NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Rutgers rowing opens the 2022 season as the No. 8 ranked Division I team in the nation in the Preseason Pocock College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Poll, presented by USRowing on Wednesday.
The Scarlet Knights, led by fifth-year head coach and reigning CRCA Regional Coach of the Year
Justin Price, return 20 of 23 rowers that competed during the 2021 NCAA Championships run that culminated in a seventh-place team national finish.
The returners from that historic Rutgers campaign include four of last season's five CRCA All-Americans -
Luisa Neerschulte,
Emily Mahaffy,
Femke Paulis, and
Olivia Maxton – and Big Ten Freshman of the Year
Hannah Heideveld.
The seventh-place national finish in 2021 was powered by the Varsity 8 boat that placed fifth in the country in the grand final of the national regatta. The Scarlet Knights also produced its best performance at the Big Ten Championships with program records in team finish (third), points (143), medal-winning boats (five), and All-Conference selections (four).
The Scarlet Knights ranked as high as No. 4 in the country last Spring, the program's best national ranking, while the Varsity 8 boat earned two Big Ten Boat of the Week awards.
The 2022 season launches with a scrimmage against Temple on March 12 before the first official event of the season at the Doc Hosea Invitational on Sun., March 27 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
