EATONTON, Ga. – Junior Sun Hwang and freshman Lucrezia Rossettin are tied for 16th to highlight action for Rutgers women's golf after the first round of the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational on Friday in Eatonton, Georgia.
With temperatures in the low to mid-50s and wind gusts topping 15 miles-per-hour, the Scarlet Knights are tied with South Dakota State and Wisconsin for seventh in the 14-team field with a 19-over-par 307. Delaware leads the field with a seven-over-par 295, followed by East Tennessee State (+9) and Chattanooga (+9). North Florida's Mindy Herrick leads the 80-player field with a three-under-par 69.
After being as high as second on the leaderboard on Friday, Rossettin closed out the day with a three-over-par 75. The rookie rolled in three birdies on holes seven, 11 and 16 and added nine pars. Hwang also tied for 16th after day one after she produced two birdies.
"I putted well today which gave me a lot confidence out on the course," Rossettin said. "My round started quickly with an early birdie and that helped me stay relaxed through a few challenging holes."
Junior Leigha Devine (T/43), sophomore Rikke Nordvik (T/55) and senior captain Maeve Rossi (T/65) rounded out the team scorecard. Nordvik and Rossi each collected a birdie during the first round.
Saturday's second round begins at 10 a.m. ET.
