GENEVA, Ohio – Rutgers track and field added a pair of medals to its overall count as
Perry Christie and
Courteney Campbell secured Silver in the men's and women's high jump on the final day of the Big Ten Championships. The Scarlet Knights closed out the weekend with four medals, earning Gold in the men's long jump and Silver in the women's pole vault on day one.
Rutgers earned a total of 12 podium finishes at the 2022 Big Ten Indoor Championships, topping last year's final count of 10.
A'nan Bridgett earned First Team All-Big Ten honors, while Christie and Campbell were each recognized as Second Team All-Big Ten.
"The women took a good step forward with our highest point total and team finish since joining the Big Ten," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country
Bobby Farrell. "We had a lot of personal records and top 10 all-time performances. This is a talented squad but we know there was more we could have done. This team will keep learning and we're excited to carry this momentum into outdoor.
"Unfortunately, on the men's side we had some tough injuries that came at a costly time. We felt we had the ability to do far more over the weekend but regardless of those tough breaks, we had some stellar performances from several individuals. We'll get healthy and be ready for outdoor."
Christie, the school record holder in the high jump, cleared the bar at 2.17m (7' 1.5") to capture Silver and his second Big Ten medal. He gave Rutgers its first Big Ten Championship in the high jump, winning the event in 2021.
Campbell, who captured Silver in the event a year ago, matched that effort with a second-place finish in this year's conference meet. She cleared a height of 1.78m (5' 10") to earn her spot on the podium. The school record holder in both the indoor and outdoor, Campbell has three Big Ten Silver medals for her career.
On day two,
Al-Tariq Dunson added a podium finish for the men's team in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.92 to place sixth.
The Scarlet Knights picked up five more podium performances on the women's side as
Alivia Ash tied for fourth in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.75m (5' 8.75"). Freshman standout
Alex Carlson placed fifth in the mile run, clocking a time of 4:40.23.
The 4x400-meter relay team of
Charlee Crawford,
Reanda Richards,
Shelby Whetstone and
Ajae Alvarez-Tyler placed sixth with a time of 3:40.51, while
Icisys Sadler and
Claudine Smith added points for Rutgers. Sadler took eighth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.74 and Smith recorded a jump of 12.34m (40' 6") to finish eighth in the triple jump.
Several Scarlet Knights turned in efforts that ranked on the program's top-10 all-time indoor performance list. The teams combined for 18 personal records over the weekend.
